If using a nickel-size amount once a week, a 1-ounce bottle will last you around 5 months.

While the majority of our products are non-comedogenic, our body oils contain coconut oil, which can clog pores when used on your face. Try any of the following application methods.

Use daily to once a week. As a body oil, it is best when applied after a shower but can be used anytime. If you have extremely dry skin, try applying it before your shower. This will prevent soap from stripping your skin of natural oils.

Rub two to three pumps of oil (a nickel-sized amount) in your hands to warm the oil. Massage into skin, working in small sections and only adding more oil as needed.

Put two pumps of serum in your palms and rub together to lightly warm the oil. Grab a small section of hair and run the lower portion through your hand to coat with oil. Apply more serum in small amounts until all ends of your hair have been coated. (No need to saturate.) Leave in for 1 or more hours or overnight, then wash and condition as normal. (You may need to wash twice or use a clarifying shampoo.)

Consult with your doctor prior to using if you:

  • are pregnant

  • take selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

  • have a chronic medical condition

  • use prescription medication.

For external use only. Do not ingest. Spot test prior to using. Discontinue use should you have an adverse reaction. Use only the advised amount. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not apply near your eyes. Discontinue use if there is a noticeable change to color, texture, or aroma.

Natural products have a shorter shelf life than most health and beauty care products because they do not use the same type or same amounts of chemical preservatives. This is one reason Deer Heart Solutions creates small-batch, hand-made products - so you are getting the freshest products we can provide.

To prolong the life of your product and prevent oxidation or bacterial growth, keep the top firmly closed. Store your bottle out of direct sunlight and away from heat and moisture.

The Finch

Finches are known for their cheerful, warbling songs, bright colors, and their bouncing flight that alternates between flapping and gliding. They have come to symbolize the ecstatic joy of true freedom. Thanks to Darwin’s research and their biodiversity, the finch also represents adaptability.

Some cultures see finches as good omens or associate them with celebration and joy. Finches are highly vocal and have been connected with communication. Their chirps are not loud and many find their singing to be quite soothing. The finch calls to mind eloquence and finding the right words to express your true thoughts.  Unlike what many once thought, a finch’s song is not restricted to breeding. Their singing helps to enhance social cohesion. Social cohesion - or communal closeness - is important for finches. They are healthier and happier when with other finches.

Bird watchers are always excited for winter, when it is common to see many finches. (There is a popular birdwatching publication called The Winter Finch Forecast.) Finches show determination and resourcefulness as they ride out cold winters. The image of the finch reminds us to stay strong during difficult times and remember spring is on the horizon.

These tiny birds inspire us to honor the little things that make us smile. They carry joy on their wings and they show us how to leave negativity behind.
